The federal government’s Transparency in Coverage Rule requires health plans and insurance issuers to disclose certain pricing information for items and services. This includes negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between health plans and health care providers. The ruling requires this data be provided in a machine-readable (computer-readable) format, which allows researchers, regulators and application developers to access and analyze data more easily.
