Connect with Your Carrier
Make sure you connect with your medical plan carrier as soon as you know you are expecting, so you can receive the support you need throughout your pregnancy.
-
Register your carrier account.
If you haven’t already, register for an account with your medical plan insurance carrier. When prompted during the registration process, give permission for the carrier to reach out to you with support. Call the carrier directly if you need assistance or have questions about registering or how outreach works.
-
A carrier representative will reach out to you.
Once you register your account and the insurance carrier receives a claim related to your pregnancy, a representative from the carrier will reach out to you. This specially trained representative — sometimes called a care manager or a case manager — will be your personal advocate throughout your pregnancy.
-
Find the right care providers for you and your baby.
Your carrier representative can assist you in finding health care providers who specialize in pregnancy and delivery — such as an obstetrician, obstetrician/gynecologist, certified nurse midwife and/or doula, depending on your needs and preferences. If you experience pregnancy complications, they can help you find the right network specialist for your situation. They can also assist you in choosing a maternity hospital or birthing center for your labor and delivery.
-
Be supported every step of the way.
The representative will work with your providers to support you throughout your pregnancy and can answer questions about your coverage and any concerns you might have including symptoms to watch out for and what happens if you deliver pre-term. They can help you understand your medications, prenatal tests and results, track your pregnancy milestones, guide you through your labor and delivery options, and assist you in following your doctor’s advice.
-
Answer calls from your insurance carrier.
In addition to the carrier representative, you may receive calls from your insurance carrier about resources and programs available to support you during your pregnancy and after the baby is born. To receive the most personalized support and take advantage of these opportunities, be sure to answer these calls.
Have a Healthy and Safe Pregnancy
Take advantage of the many resources available to help you and your loved ones be healthy and safe throughout your pregnancy.
-
Consider top facilities for maternity care.
Depending on network availability, you may want to consider accessing care from one of the country’s leading hospitals for maternity care. Your insurance carrier representative can help you find one that is in your plan’s network.
-
Acquire the maternity supplies you need.
Your carrier representative can let you know about your coverage for things you may need during and after your pregnancy, such as prenatal vitamins, maternity support belts and bands, pregnancy pillows, breast pumps and nursing supplies, lactation support and formula.
-
Access resources and education for yourself and your loved ones.
Your carrier representative will guide you to resources for maternity education, which could include pregnancy nutrition and exercise, childbirth classes, tips for creating a birthing plan and newborn care. They can connect your loved ones with resources as well. Select your carrier below to see what resources may be available to you. Keep in mind that carrier resources may change, and it’s best to reach out to your carrier directly for current programs, details and availability.

Take advantage of the Healthy Behaviors Wellness Program.
If you are enrolled in one of the DXC High Deductible Health Plans (Bronze, Bronze Plus or Silver), you can access well-being resources through the Healthy Behaviors Wellness Program, including health coaching to help you take care of yourself during and after your pregnancy. You can also earn incentives in the form of company contributions to your Health Savings Account (HSA) by completing certain activities.
-
Receive enhanced dental benefits.
Pregnant women are more likely to experience oral health issues, which can lead to a greater risk of preterm birth, low birth weight and other delivery complications. To help you keep your teeth and gums their healthiest, your DXC dental coverage may include enhanced dental benefits for pregnant members — one additional cleaning and exam. Talk to your dentist or your dental insurance carrier to find out if you’re eligible.
Take Care of Yourself and Your Family
Throughout your pregnancy and when you welcome your new child, use your DXC benefits to help you take care of yourself and your loved ones and support your emotional well-being as well.
-
Take time away from work.
In addition to taking time off for your labor and delivery, you may need to take time away from work for appointments, treatments or extra rest during your pregnancy. DXC provides job protected leave of absence options so you can leave work behind and focus on taking care of yourself and your family. Although these leaves are unpaid, you may have access to disability income protection (if you enrolled in Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage). You may also use available sick time and flex vacation. After your delivery, you may be eligible for family leave to bond with your new child. As soon as you are able, reach out to The Hartford, the DXC Leaves of Absence administrator, to initiate your leave of absence. It’s also important to discuss your plans with your manager.
-
Tend to your emotional well-being.
It’s normal to experience a wide range of emotions along your pregnancy journey. DXC’s LifeManagement Employee Assistance Program (EAP), offered through Magellan, can help you (and your loved ones) manage the emotional aspects of your pregnancy and newborn experience.
-
Access caregiver support.
DXC’s Caregiver and Parent Support benefit through Torchlight provides a variety of helpful online resources and personalized advice sessions with experts who can help with your specific parenting or caregiving issues, at no cost to you. Both you and your partner can set up a Torchlight account. You can also use DXC’s Enhanced Family Supports Program to find caregivers to assist you during your pregnancy, including babysitters, nannies, pet sitters, elder caregivers, housekeepers and more — and to find a caregiver for your new baby.
-
Get ready to welcome your baby.
Before your baby arrives, select a pediatrician, and have everything you need to keep your newborn healthy and safe, including a car seat, diapers, crib, nursing supplies and formula. Your insurance carrier representative and the DXC Benefits Center can help you find a pediatrician and understand what baby supplies may be available through your medical coverage. Your insurance carrier representative can also direct you to cord blood banking options, if that is something you’d like to consider, as well resources for baby proofing your home and preparing pets for a new family member.
Protect Yourself Financially and Legally
Protect your financial well-being — and the financial well-being of your loved ones — with your DXC financial and legal benefits and resources.
-
Reach out to the DXC Benefits Center.
The DXC Benefits Center can help you verify your medical plan maternity benefits, help you find doctors, including in-network specialists for pregnancy complications or neonatal concerns, schedule appointments, resolve claims and billing issues, transfer medical records on your behalf, and provide additional personalized assistance throughout your pregnancy.
-
Consider your financial wellness.
With a new baby on the way, you might want to increase your DXC 401(k) contributions, start saving for college, set up an emergency fund or adjust your budget. If you have DXC hospitalization insurance through MetLife, you can receive a lump sum payment (which you can use for anything you’d like) when you’re hospitalized for childbirth.
-
Protect yourself and your loved ones legally.
Depending on your DXC benefit elections, you have access to will preparation services and assistance with other legal issues, including powers of attorney, as well as a variety of legal resources. With a new baby on the way, you may also want to make sure your beneficiary designations are up to date.
-
Use your tax-advantaged accounts for maternity care expenses.
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you can use them to pay eligible health care expenses, including deductibles and coinsurance as well as costs you incur for things like prenatal vitamins, breast pumps and supplies, birth classes, and travel and transportation related to receiving maternity care. You can change your HSA contributions anytime during the year.
Support Continues After Delivery
After you welcome your baby into the world, continue to access the benefits and resources available to help you and your loved ones be well.
-
Stay connected with your carrier.
After your delivery, your insurance carrier representative will continue to provide postpartum support to help you recover and adjust to life with your new baby. They can help you find a pediatrician if you haven’t already, access a lactation consultant through your medical plan, keep up with your baby’s first checkups, and connect you with new mother support groups and other resources.
-
Reach out for mental health support.
Even with all the joy that parenthood brings, many new parents feel overwhelmed or anxious when bringing their newborn home. If you experience the “baby blues” or postpartum depression, your insurance carrier representative can connect you to assistance through your medical plan coverage and you can receive assistance through these DXC benefits as well.
-
Keep using your DXC benefits and resources.
Keep taking advantage of your DXC benefits and resources for support for yourself and your newborn. Remember to add your new child to your DXC medical plan coverage (and other benefits) within 30 days of your child’s date of birth, even if you are already enrolled in family coverage.
